Dear Colleagues, Dear Friends

The International Cave Bear Symposium (ICBS) will be held in one of the most historical regions concerning the cave bear. Their remains from the Harz Mountains belong to the northern part of the Eurasian contributions. Since 1993 the symposium is held every year in a new town somewhere in Europe . In 2011, it will be held at the Einhornhöhle ( Unicorn Cave ) at Herzberg-Scharzfeld in Germany . The participants will have the unique opportunity to update the latest developments in the cave bear research and to visit the Einhornhöhle ( Unicorn Cave ), the HöhlenErlebnisZentrum at the Iberger Tropfsteinhöhle, the Baumannshöhle, the Hermannshöhle and the Staatliche Naturhistorische Museum ( Natural History Museum ) in Braunschweig.

Symposium location

The symposium will be held in the Hotel & Restaurant Harzer Hof in Herzberg-Scharzfeld, a village located in south-western part of the Harz mountain, about 30 km from Göttingen.

Accomodation

We suggest booking at the Hotel & Restaurant Harzer Hof (http://www.hotel-harzerhof.de) in Herzberg-Scharzfeld but there are several campsite, hostels and guesthouses close to Herzberg-Scharzfeld (http://www.herzberg.de or www.baudensteig.de).

How to get there?

- by car: B27/B243 between Herzberg and Bad Lauterberg

- by bus: bus stop in Scharzfeld

- by train: rail station Bad Lauterberg – Barbis (3 km to the hotel)

- by plane: Hannover or Erfurt

Communications and posters

Lectures will last 15 min. + 5 min. discussion.

To allow the printing of pre-acts before the Symposium, the dead line for abstracts (1 page max., i.e. 2500 characters including spaces) is May 31st, 2011 . The text may be in German or English. Text will be provided by e-mail to doris.doeppes@mannheim.de (in word and excel format). Illustrations should be provided in JPG or TIFF format. See also instructions at the end of the circular.

If too many lectures are signed in, each participant will have the opportunity to present his presentation in form of a poster.

Lectures and posters are to be published in a special issue of "Braunschweiger Naturkundliche Schriften". Manuscripts are to be ready on the Symposium date (if not, the dead line was November 30th, 2011 ).

The posters (80 cm x 120 cm max) will be exposed on notice boards in the “Hotel & Restaurant Harzer Hof”.

Available equipment for lectures will be a video projector for PowerPoint presentations. If you need a slide or overhead projector, please mention it on your registration form.
